Country : Republic of Singapore
FB / Website :
Introduction :

Dance Horizon Troupe (Singapore) was founded on 20th August 2001 and held its official opening ceremony on 18th August 2002. Led by Founder and Artistic Director, Mr. Henry Ng Chay Kuang, Dance Horizon strongly advocates originality and creativity in the art of Dance. To promote development of the local arts scene, Dance Horizon dedicates assiduous effort towards cultivating the interests of our local youths in pursuing dance, mainly through providing opportunities for potential professional dancers and budding choreographers to showcase their talents. This year marks the 10th year establishment of Dance Horizon as we continue to embrace the arts scene with enthusiasm, creativity and vitality.

Dance Horizon has been actively involved in a significant number of local and overseas events since its establishment. Dance concerts staged at venues like the Victoria Theatre and Esplanade such as Quindance, Senses, Enter 1773, Beyond Horizon I and II, Why not Dance?, Evolution and D.ecagon, just to name a few, received much positive response from the public. These in-house performances involve Dance Horizon members in all aspects from conceptualising to choreographing to dance to coordinating the back stage and even ticketing. Through experience, it inculcates a greater appreciation for the arts in members as they see and feel for themselves the amount of hard work that goes into putting up a concert far exceeds the length of the show. It is also through common experiences that build camaraderie and repoire among the dancers which manifests as impeccable teamwork on stage.
Apart from these in-house dance concerts, Dance Horizon is often seen in various large scale performances. Examples of such these include Chingay 2008, River Festival 2009 and the upcoming Youth Olympic Games 2010 as well as The Singapore Heritage Festival 2010/2011. Dance Horizon also contributes towards several initiatives by the Ministry of Education (MOE), such as performing in schools as part of the Arts Education Program (AEP) enrichment curriculum and the 3rd Dance Education Conference (DEC). Being a non-profit organisation, Dance Horizon also embraces its corporate social responsibility and is engaged in several charity functions as well as performing for the precincts during Festivities like the Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival to liven up the spirits for the beneficiaries and residents alike.

Besides these, Dance Horizon has brought local dance works across national boundaries through participating in a wide range of cultural exchange programs. Dance Horizon has visited countries like Hong Kong in 2007 for the International Dance Festival, Malaysia in 2008 for the International Arts Festival, Prague in 2008 for the New Prague Dance Festival where we clinched several awards including the “Best Contemporary Dance” title and “Best Choreographer” award. Selected members from Dance Horizon were in Taiwan to learn from veteran dancer, Ms Guo Nai Yu, from the reknowned “Cloud Gate Dance Theatre” and were also invited to participate in the Nan-Ying Folklore Festival 2010. Dance Horizon has also visited Korea in 2011 for a meaningful dance exchange cum cultural performances as well as the opportunity to work with established Korean choreographer. These dance trips not only enable Dance Horizon to showcase local talents to overseas audiences but also allow the members to enhance their dance attributes through continuous learning. Through these activities, the troupe hopes to promote the art of dancing and more importantly, support Singapore in attaining the status of a cultural and artistic hub.
